THE BEST OF BOTH PRACTICES
WHAT IS SOMATICS:
"Soma" means body. Somatic flows are slow conscious ways of moving muscle groups that retrain the brain to connect with the muscle and joint movement. The "Flows" reduce and/or eliminate chronic pain, which is often caused by habitual movement patterns that do not allow muscles to completely relax. Over time this causes tension in the muscles, leading to chronic pain.
"Easy Yoga Plus!"
Yoga designed to be safe for the older adult. Props and modifications are ways of making the poses accessible for EVERY BODY. This practice strengthens muscles, increases flexibility, improves balance, and provides ways to move energy in the body.
Each class will start with a short educational discussion to help you get more out of the class, understanding how to move into poses and stretches, and how to gain a deeper understanding and awareness of yourself.
Following the discussion from a seated position, we will do some breath work and move all of our joints. Seated somatic flows are also included. Next, we practice some standing yoga poses and sequences before safely going to the floor for more somatic flows and yoga poses. (NOTE: Unsure about safely going to the floor, I can show you how.)
If you are unable to go to the floor, modifications can be made to participate from your chair. Even just visualizing something that you cannot accomplish will produce results. The last pose, Savasana, is 3-5 minutes of total relaxation. A time to connect to the energy you receive from the Universe, defining who you are.
Summary: Total time commitment is 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Fridays : 10 a.m. Sign in at 9:50 p.m.

When you sign in, you go into the "Waiting Room". I must give
you permission to enter the class (a Zoom security feature).
Once I start teaching, it is difficult to grant permission to enter
class. This also allows time for greeting and getting acquainted
with each other.
NOTE: Interested in learning about a particular topic, let me know.
Schedule changes can be made based on student's needs as well as the teacher's schedule.
The class is taught by Ellen L. Millar, Registered Yoga Teacher and Linda King, RYT, LPC. Both are graduates of Duke Integrative Medicine Yoga for Seniors Master Class.
Donations are welcome to cover teaching, website, insurance, certification requirements, and Zoom costs. The suggested donation is $15/month for either the Wednesday OR the Friday class. If you wish to attend both classes, the suggested donation is $25/month. Checks made payable to "Easy Yoga Plus!" may be mailed to 101 Frost Woods Road #313, Monona, WI 53716
NOTE: If you are unable to make a contribution, please contact me to discuss your situation and a possible scholarship.
The following items will make your practice safe, confortable, and enjoyable.
Yoga Mat - IMPORTANT as this will give you a stable base on which to practice the yoga poses. There is no substitute for a good mat.
Yoga Blocks - Two books of equal thickness or two firm pillows may be used as substitutes.
Yoga Belt - You may use a belt from your bathrobe, a scarf, or a regular belt.
Lacrosse Ball - You may use a tennis ball but it will not get to the tension in the deep tissues. See Amazon and look for the two pack. Cost will be less than $10 and well worth the investment.
Don't hesitate to ask. Feedback is also welcome!
